WE ARE THE FALLEN

I need to take a moment and write about how proud I am of one my dearest friends Carly Smithson and her new band WE ARE THE FALLEN.
They are on their first tour together which started in the UK and are now touring all over America until May. Their new album "Tear the World Down" will be out in May 11th.

Check out their new video from their smashing track "Bury Me Alive"

My Love...

For 20 years Morrissey and The Smiths have been there for me
through thick and thin, around the world and back again.
I just felt like devoting a day to my love for him and sharing it:
HOW SOON IS HOW SOON IS NOW???

DANA WHITE SHOOT FOR FIGHTERS ONLY

So I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot with UFC president Dana White for Fighters Only magazine with my friend and sick photographer Eric Williams.  Being that I am totally devoted to my Jiu-Jitsu training with Rorion Gracie's Family, its so much fun for me to get to work people like Dana and UFC fighters, joining two of my passions together.

Most people these days know who Dana is because MMA (mixed martial arts) is the fastest growing sport to date and the UFC is the king of that jungle.  Dana was a total pleasure to work with.  He has the presence of someone who means business but is warm and genuine all at the same time...  It's no wonder he is a celebrity business mogul.

It was a very fun and inspiring shoot and Fighters Only captured some footage it all.

Enjoy!

PLASTIC DREAMS

I've been dancing to the beats of my music since last night....
***Dirty/Sexy/HOUSE MUSIC***
Exploring through old CD's and discovering so many AMAZING memories through the music that moves out of them.
Next Level.
I could never explain how special I feel to have these memories and more so even to be one of the rare people who can actually feel this music that helped to create those memories.
No its not rave music, nor is it techno, or trance....
Its beyond labels.
Its the rhythm of my life.
Age means nothing.
Music is Forever.
And the attitude coming off the picture below is as well.
WURK!

EDDIE WOULD GO

***MAHOLO NUI LOA EDDIE AIKAU***

The Hawaiian waterman who gave his life on this day 32 years ago in the attempt to get rescue for the Hokulea canoe that was capped in the stormy seas of Hawaii...

As a surfer of 16 years and Hawaii being my home away from home, I wanted to display my respect to honor him on this day.  It takes a lot of HEART to subject yourself to danger so that you may be able to help others to safety.  I think its the people with big hearts like that who make the world a better place... People like Eddie inspire me in more ways than one so I will keep him alive with love and respect 32 years later...

AND THE WINNER IS...

CHRISTIAN DIOR!

Oooh La La John Galliano made me LUST over and over again as his new Fall 2010 RTW strutted down the Parisian runway this week.  I too LOVE the dialog between the chiffon and leather in this collection, making it perfectly feminine but with some strength and attitude. The hair and makeup fit beautifully proving it to be the perfect accessory to complete the feeling of the collection.  Of course when anyone is channeling Johnny Depp as part of an inspiration as Galliano mentions, the final product has no choice but to come out sexy...

Here are a few other looks from the Paris collections that I adored.

Sexy has never been more fun

Oh Showtime, right when I thought it was safe to nix you from my monthly cable bill my girlfriend shared with me a very delicious a "secret" from your channel.  I have been turned on to one of your best series yet to date "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" and now have a new obession every Monday night!  This show is in it's 3rd season, starring the gorgeous once pop singer and now full blown actress out of the UK, Billie Piper.  Her and her performance in the show is absolutely stunning in every episode! The show itself is so refreshing with its witty, sexy, and sassy tone that keeps you hungry for more... I don't feel guilty about paying extra for this channel anymore now that I get to enjoy a gulit-free bon-bon before bed every week!
Thank you Allison xoxo ;)

"WERE ALL MAD HERE"

Valli O’Reilly and her makeup team absolutely KILLED it with the looks for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.  This has always been one of my favorite movies and now with Johnny Deep at the front of this new take on it I CANNOT wait to get my ticket, sit in that dark room and enter Alice's world!

Its been awhile since the makeup from a film has stirred excitement in me.  Ive talked about it here, how a true artist is one that understands the concept and talent to a project and their work commuincates that by influencing and completing the story.  The makeup, hair and costumes in this movie are the PERFECT example of that...

Maquillage Artistique

To become a makeup artist today you do not need any degree, certification, or license... you simply need to have a makeup kit and be able to apply makeup.
As a result of this you find an extremely saturated industry full of many who are reaching with brushes for the stars... literally and figuratively speaking.
With so many out there titling themselves as makeup artists how do you deem who is actually an artist over someone who knows how to apply makeup?  Defining an artist many say is a matter of opinion. True.  In the world of makeup artistry there are many people who know how to create a fantastic "smokey eye" or paint on "natural"makeup.  Then there are the others.  The one's who know how to influence and complete the image by having their instincts put them in synchronicity with the concept and reveal it through their makeup. Understanding the concept and talent I feel, is one of the most important things to realize when on a job. Knowing how to influence and complete the concept through your makeup is what can ultimately define one as a artist and not just a makeup artist.

My career in makeup stems from my love for transformation not from my love for makeup products. As I child I painted and drew everywhere from walls to sketch boards to canvases. I loved to create. I started makeup professionally with out schooling at first and eventually as I became more serious about my future as a professional makeup artist I did attend schooling for it. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to move to Paris and attend a world renowned artistic academy for makeup,  Christian Chauveau while being submerged in one of the most beautiful and artistic cities in the world.
It was here that my eyes were trained to meet the skills of my hands and see makeup on the most perfected technical level. Kind of like photoshop eyes.
The teachers there are no joke. Just when you made the face perfect, they would show you how to take your perfect to a new level. After months of schooling and a life in Paris I returned to New York City to embark deeper in my career. The interesting thing was that eventually I found to become a true artist I had to un-train a lot of the methods I did day in and day out at Chauveau while still keeping my photoshop eyes. I discovered how my approach to each job had to be different and stem from some level of inspiration. This discovery actually grew my passion as a makeup artist because it sent me off into the endless world of research.
Researching art, fashion, photographers, models, film, music, poetry, nature, architecture, the list goes on and on.  It's as if I get to escape into a world of what I find to be beautiful, influencial and interesting... one thing learned leads to one more thing to learn, taking it all in and enjoying it like it's Norwegian chocolate, savoring every piece I take a bite of.  THIS is what keeps me inspired daily and pushes my makeup art to new levels. I can never learn enough, I can never know enough, therefore I can always be better... there is no limit and I am in love that.
Now I have created a space where I can offer a peek into my world of work, my passion for beauty and the interesting and of course the people and things that inspire me...
That said, here are some of my favorite artists who's work I feel made a strong impact in their fields and CONSTANTLY move me ...
Kees Van Dongen - the Dutch artist from the fauvism era who stole my heart with every stroke of his brushes

Alice Ghendrih - a Parisian makeup artist who is a TRUE artist...
Proudly she attended my school in Paris too :)

Valentino - the Italian designer who truly understands how to make a woman feel beautiful through his clothes... I feel beautiful even when watching them walk down the runway

Antoni Gaudi - the Spanish Catalan architect who's designs exhibit his influence from nature and are truly figures of art

Paolo Roversi - the Italian photographer whose work with color looks like that made of water colors, soft and angelic... his work stares back at you when looking at it...

Claude DeBussy - This French composers masterpiece "Clair de Lune" is on my playlist everyday and often on repeat when I need to get inspired...
